Schools fundamental movement programme
6-8 week long programme.
Forty minute session per group of students.
Two euro per child per session.
Purpose and intention of the fundamental movement programme:
Spring in your step promotes FUNDAMENTAL MOVEMENTS all through stimulating activities, all of which is outdoors when possible.
Spring in your step is founded upon the idea of creating a safe space for children to develop their fundamental movement skills and understand the importance of MENTAL HEALTH, all through fun and engaging developmentally appropriate activities.
Our pedagogy when working with the students is very CHILD LEAD and OPEN TO CHANGE, we encourage the students to VOICE THEIR OPINIONS and we support their FREEDOM TO CHOOSE. As a coach we aim to have an EXPERIENTIAL, COLLABOATIVE and COOPERATIVE approach. RISKY PLAY is a form of play we engage in with the children, we embolden them to EXPERIMENT and ACT CREATIVELY. Throughout our sessions we foster the importance of children cooperating together and WORKING COLLABOATIVELY AS A TEAM. All games and activities are carried out as part of a TEAM, building CONNECTIONS and FRIENDSHIPS is hugely important to us... with a SENSE OF BELONGING comes a child's CHARACTER and CONFIDENCE!
Spring in your step activities may include (but are not limited to):
- 5 minute mediation with yoga (warm up).
- Evidence based MOVEMENT GAMES to promote EMOTIONAL REGULATION - stuck in the mud, cone catcher, good cop bad cop, grab the cone, through the hoop, relay surprise etc... These fundamental movement activities not only promote children's coordination, athletic ability and concentration but also offer the opportunity to escape the seriousness the school environment often brings.
- Fundamental movement skills COMPETITIONS such as balancing, racing, throwing, plank, skipping... creating a sense of competition adds an element of excitement for the students and ensures fun all round.
- Challenging yet ability appropriate OBSTACLE COURSESM as part of a team... This is where the students put all of the fundamental movement skills practiced throughout the session to use all at once in a fun, engaging and competitive way.
- 5 minute REFLECTION and moment of GRATITUDE with yoga (cool down). Here the students have the opportunity to express what they liked/disliked about their session. We also encourage the students to say two things they are grateful for as a form of MEDITATION and RELAXATION after their energy guzzling session. This five minute cool down RESETS AND REGULATES THE ENERGY AND EMOTIONS for heading back into the classroom environment.
Our FOCUS at Spring in your step ensures all of our ACTIVITIES and GAMES incorporate FUNDAMENTAL MOVEMENTS with an emphasis on HEALTHY BODY, HEALTHY MIND to promise your students a HAPPY and HEALTHY future ahead.
Many of these movements are often IGNORED and emphasis towards sports such as football, gymnastics, soccer, etc REPLACES them instead… HOWEVER, let’s not forget it’s the FUNDAMENTAL MOVEMENTS in EVERY sport is where the SKILL REALLY LAYS!
Without conquering these FUNDAMENTAL MOVEMENTS children are being DENIED the opportunity to reach their potential in their sporting careers.
We understand not every child wants to be the best athlete they can be but whether that’s their goal or not fundamental movements bring JOY and EASE to every sport too.
Not only does Spring in your step enhance children’s ATHLETIC ABILITIES, instil a POSITIVE ATTITUDE towards movement and exercise but we also ensure a Healthy body, healthy mind MINDSET is captured and understood.
